Betty E. Larson Becomes Bride
At an afternoon ceremony on June 24, Miss
Betty Ellen Larson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Larson of Regent
Square, became the bride of Richard Kepple Steele, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C.
Steele of
Regent Square, in the Calvary Lutheran Church, Wilkinsburg, with Dr. A. W.
Steinfurth officiating. The bride wore a gown of white net and jersey with
fingertip veil and carried a colonial bouquet of white roses centered with an
orchid. Her sister, Mrs. R. W. Worthing of Boston, Mass., was the matron of
honor and wore a gown of pink marquisette. She carried a colonial bouquet of
pink roses and blue snapdragons. Donald Steele of Buffalo, N. Y., was his
brother's best man, and the ushers were Albert Helquist and A. Knox Bassett. A
reception in the Penn-Lincoln Hotel followed the ceremony. After a short trip
Mr. and Mrs. Steele will be at home in Columbus, O.

Dr. D. C. Steele Active for Years In School
Affairs
Dr. Donald C. Steele, 64, principal of Baxter
Junior High School since 1939, died yesterday morning at his home, 969 LaClair
Street. Dr. Steele had been active in school administrative affairs for many
years, serving schools in Johnstown, Greensburg, and McKeesport, before coming
to Pittsburgh City schools.
Had Been Pitt Professor
He had been a professor of mathematics at
the University of Pittsburgh, and also served at Westinghouse High School
before going to Baxter. Two of Dr. Steele's text books, one on mathematics and
one on educational measurements, are presently used in the Pittsburgh schools.
Native of Greensburg
A native of Greensburg, he received his B.
A. from Washington and Jefferson College and his Master's and Ph.D. from the
University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Steele is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Kepple
Steele; two sons, Donald C.., Jr., of Mt. Lebanon, and Richard K., of Camarillo,
Ca.; two brothers, Meyers H., of Gary, Ind., and Howard B., of Mt. Lebanon; two
sisters, Mrs. Sara S. Ridenour, Pittsburgh, and Miss Josephine Steele, Scottdale,
and three grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

months of contending with congestive heart disease. Survived by loving wife of

Rick. Brother of Don Steele in Florida. Grandfather of Cindy and Linda Steele
and great-grandfather of Dylan, son of Cindy & Jeff Holstein. Father-in-law of
Melody Steele, Janet Steele, and Bruce Davis Brother-in-law of Alberta Steele;
one nephew, Geoffrey Steele. Numerous relatives in Pennsylvania & many friends.
He was born in Greensburg, PA, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh
Engineering School. Obtained M.S. at the University of Florida. In a highly
acclaimed engineering career, his work included management of Special Projects &
Structures Development at Aerojet General Corp., Aircraft Nuclear Propulsion
Development at General Electric, Division Director at the Navy Civil Engineering
Research Laboratory, Manager of computerized energy conservation systems at
McClellan AFB. In 1994, he received a special award from AEWG for his pioneering
contributions in Acoustic Emission Technology. He taught math at 4 major
universities, including UCLA and CSUS. He was founder and owner of Product
Research Associates. He was holder of 8 technical patents, past President of
SESA, & listed in American Men of Science & Who's Who in the West 1992/93. He
particularly enjoyed family gatherings, Fall outdoor trips with his son Bob for
40 years, & golfing vacations with his wife. He will be greatly missed. Private

June 26, 1951 to Dec. 18, 2000
Passed away peacefully at home in Orangeville
on December 18, 2000. Survived by loving husband of 27 years, Bruce Davis, who
with Linda built a successful real property investments business. Beloved
daughter of Betty Steele, sister of Bob Steele, daughter-in-law to Maxine Davis,
sister-in-law of Melody Steele, Janet Steele, Doug and Maew Davis, and aunt to
Lisa Steele, Cindy Holstein, and Michelle, Annette, and Aprin Davis. Predeceased
by father Richard Steele and brother Rick Steele. Linda graduated from
Sacramento State University with a degree in mathematics. She enjoyed tutoring
students in calculus and looked forward to the regular visits of neighborhood
children over the years, especially Emmy and Michael. Linda and her mother were
very close, they conversed several times every day and enjoyed many memorable
times together. The special Fourth of July family gathering at Linda's beautiful
home was a highlight of each year. Linda loved to be outdoors working in the
garden accompanied by her beloved Springer spaniel, Jolie. Her yard was
resplendent with blooming plants throughout the year and her roses were the envy
of all, with Peace and Color Magic among her favorites. The family would like to
extend its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Donald Colbourn and Dr. Dwight
Stickney, and wonderful staff for their inspiration, compassion and special care
over the course of Linda's illness. The dedicated, caring staff of Sutter
Roseville Hospice including nurses Connie Morgan, RN and Horti Davis, RN
provided so many services that were greatly appreciated. And, the family is
especially grateful to in-home care provider, Joyce Raub, a saint who gave so
much comfort to Linda in her final days. Private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, any donations in Linda's memory may be made to the Sutter
Roseville Hospice at 1836 Sierra Gardens Dr., Suite 130, Roseville, CA 95661.

son-in-law Bruce Davis; grandchildren, Lisa Steele and Cindy Chapman;
great-grandson, Dylan Holstein; sister-in-law, Alberta Steele; and nephew,
Geoffrey Steele. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Richard
Steele; daughter, Linda Steele Davis; and son, Rick Steele. Born in 1920, she
grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduating from the University of
Pittsburgh in 1941 and completing postgraduate work at Boston University. A
talented writer from an early age, she won awards in statewide essay contests
with her recent work published by The National Library of Poetry. She tutored
children with reading difficulties in her home, enabling these children to
become academic achievers. She was a generous, kind and caring person who
cherished her family and many dear friends. Her courage and inner strength
enabled her to overcome personal tragedies later in life while continuing to
help many persons in need. She had great compassion for those less fortunate;
was an avid birdwatcher; loved animals, roses, and everything in bloom, winning
awards for her camellias entered into the Sacramento Camellia Festival. She was
a long-time donor to the Humane Society of United States and other organizations
concerned with the humane treatment of animals. Please make any contributions in
her name to the Humane Society or local SPCA. Private services for the family.

In Roseville, April 30, age 69, surrounded by
loving family after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. Survived by husband
Robert Steele, children Lisa Steele and Cindy Chapman, sister Judy Wilson,
nephew Kris Wilson, son-in-law Jeff Holstein and grandson Dylan Holstein. Melody
also leaves a wide circle of longtime dear friends that she cared for greatly.
Melody worked as an assistant in oral surgery, managed several home businesses,
worked in retail sales and as a volunteer on behalf of various charitable
organizations. She enjoyed fishing trips and local excursions with her husband
Robert, family gatherings and special events with Jeff and Dylan, craft
activities with her sister Judy and pursuing her passion for bingo which she
shared with some of her closest friends. Melody was a beautiful woman loved by
her family and friends who had a tender spot for those less fortunate. She will
be greatly missed. Private family services.
