George Gilby, 83, who had been a
resident of Galveston for two years, died at 10:15 o'clock last night at the
home of a son, G. E. Gilby, 1801 18th. He was born in England on Sept. 22, 1852.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. W. F. Cullen of Jarrell, Tex., another son, Ralph
Gilby of Dallas; eight grandchildren; one brother, James Gilby of Canada, and
other relatives. Funeral arrangements will be announced by J. Levy & Bro. after
the arrival of relatives.

Born Nov. 15, 1925, at International Falls, he was a 1943
graduate of Falls High School. He had resided in the Falls,
Twin Cities, Palm Springs, Calif., and Green Valley.
He had served in the United States Army Air Corps.
In 1947, he married the former Jean Cullen.
Vice president and sales manager of Groves-Kelco for 30
years in the Twin Cities, he was a member of the American
Legion and Elks Club.
His wife, Jean, preceded him in death in 1997.
Survivors include a son, William G. Spath of Rhode Island; a
daughter, Janet Johnson of Arizona; a brother, LeRoy Spath;
and two grandchildren.
No services are scheduled. Cremation took place at Desert
Rose, Tucson, Ariz.

Ray Brandes of Redmond died July 13, 2001, in
Redmond. He was 94. Mr. Brandes was born May 11, 1907, in
Holyoke, Colo. He attended the University of Nebraska for
two years. He moved to Seattle after being hired to help a
family move there from Nebraska. He worked as a manager at
Piggly Wiggly and Safeway before opening a camera shop in
Tacoma. He was part of a team that filmed a travelogue in
Olympic National Park and a film on the construction and
collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The Tacoma Narrows
footage is still used in math and physics classes. At the
camera shop he met his first wife, Mimi Petching, a
photography student. She died in 1963. After taking
woodworking classes during the late 1940s, Mr. Brandes
became a building contractor. He admired the architect Frank
Lloyd Wright and convinced him to design the ''Brandes
House,'' now listed on the National Register of Historic
Buildings, in 1952. The building, located on the Sammamish
Plateau, is now the home of Mr. Brandes' stepson. He later
built another Wright design in Normandy Park. In 1966 he
married Helen Cullen, whom he met on a blind date. He was a
member of the Mountaineers' Club and REI. He enjoyed
photography, mountain climbing, skiing, traveling and
gardening. He loved playing with his grandchildren, building
toys for them and teaching them to play golf before they
were old enough to go to school. He was known for his
inquisitive intelligence and his love of work. In addition
to his wife of 35 years, survivors include his stepson, Jack
Cullen, and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be
held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Emerald Heights in Redmond.
Remembrances may be made to Evergreen Hospice. Bleitz of
Bellevue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Edward Cullen, age 84, of Union Twp,
Burnett County, WI, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014.
He was born in Temple, Texas on January 29, 1930, a son of
the late William and Jessie (Gilby) Cullen. He was baptized
and confirmed in the Catholic faith, and was proud of his
Irish heritage. John served in the U.S. Army from February
28, 1950 and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1953. He
was primarily assigned to the 881st Ordnance, HAM (Heavy
Automotive Maintenance) Company. Prior to his retirement,
John had been employed over 30 years with Honeywell Corp.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Joseph
and Ralph; and a sister, Jean. He is survived by his best
friend, Janice League-Cooper. Committal with full military
honors of John�s cremated remains will be held Friday,
January 30, 2015 at 2:30PM at the Northern Wisconsin
Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, Wisconsin. Arrangements
